Are you and your kids ready for the new school year?

We’ve got you covered at Attach A Tag - with some useful hacks to make the back to school transition smooth as butter.

Things sure have changed since Covid times in our last Back to School blog and thankfully this school year is set to be a far cry from 2020.

That being said, your children may still face a few worries or anxieties about the new school year, whether they’re going into a new class or a whole new school, easing them into the routine may help alleviate stress caused.

  •  Why not have everything packed and set out ready for the next day – being prepared for the next school day goes a long way. Uniform or school wear laid out for them to dress in and school bag packed ready for their lunchbox in the morning saves a lot of rushing around in the early hours.

  • A few days to a week before summer holidays end, have everyone get used to the waking up time and perhaps even rehearse the journey to school so they get familiar with the environment and timescale. It’s also handy if you’re driving or travelling to a brand-new location so you can know which routes to avoid.

  • Use positive reinforcement for small victories – If they usually struggle with being separated from you but manage to go through the school gates with ease, let them know!
Things like “Well done on going straight to class today” will help your kids become that little more confident.

  • Why not pack a small gift like a fun new bit of stationary or some stickers etc to brighten their day and chase away the “school scaries”.

When kids are running around at school and going from class to class, it makes misplacing belongings rather easy. Make sure you’re fully equipped with our tags this summer by checking out our Starter Kit Plus – which also includes labels for lunchboxes & water bottles , shoes, pencil tins and more! Don’t forget that our tags are fully re-usable* too, so you can just transfer them onto any new uniform when they grow out of their current one.

While we’re on the subject – we had a search around the internet for parents’ top rated brands when it comes to school wear:

They rated Eastpak, Smiggle and the classic brand Jansport for the most hard-wearing bags.

George at ASDA, Marks & Spencers and John Lewis came out on top for school uniform pieces

And brands like Schuh and Clarks for school shoes that will last the whole year round.

Another time-consuming task can be making lunches for the week. Some people swear by batch-cooking for the week, others by making sure that their kids have the same sandwiches etc on one day to save any extra hassle. School guidelines on lunches can differ around the UK but have been a requirement to be nutritionally balanced since 2015.

We have given a few ideas on Healthy Packed Lunches before but here’s a little bit more food for thought:

  • Classic veggie sticks and hummus or guacamole

  • Cheese and wholewheat crackers

  • Malt loaf or try your hand at making your own fruit leather!

  • Homemade popcorn in a ziplock or freezer bag – plain or experiment with your own dry seasonings (writer’s favourite is mild curry powder and a bit of salt)

  • Granola bars

There’s plenty of options out there that can all be kept in airtight containers in the cupboard or freezer to give your kids some variety. The snacks above can be made at home with the help of little hands so they feel more satisfied and have fun.
