After the rain, comes the sun! With warmer weather just around the corner, we’ve thought of some simplistic and fun ways to enjoy the outdoors this spring with the family, while keeping the cost low.

Going Puddle Jumping with the little ones

Let’s face it – most, if not all kids love donning their wellies and splashing about outside. With plenty of rain showers in spring, puddles are rarely ever in short supply.

Going out on a local trip to specifically find puddles for jumping makes for a great way to entertain the little ones and let them know that there are times when it’s ok to get messy enjoying the outdoors.

The cleanup afterwards however isn’t as fun, especially when there’s lots of pairs of wellies to hose down and scrub. Luckily, our name labels like in the photo above, are completely wash-proof and adhere to vinyl & rubber surfaces very well; perfect for everyone’s rain boots and shoes.

Who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned picnic?

Who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned picnic? Whether you’re stopping for lunch while going on a country walk or making it into an entire day out at the beach, bringing a basket or bag full of treats with you and getting everyone to pitch in on the set up (and clean up) is always a great time for all.

Why not organise a themed picnic? We’ve all heard of a teddy bear picnic - but why stop there?  Seasonally themed picnics can be a lovely way to bring friends and family together and get everyone in on the fun of making themed dishes or even dressing up.

Going for a big kids Bug Hunt

Hunting down creepy-crawlies in the garden or local park and taking a closer look at their features is one of the best low-cost activities in Spring and Summer. Not only does it teach children about our small wildlife and how important they are for pollination and the ecosystem, but it also lets them see how pretty (and cool) insects, beetles and spiders can be.

You’ll only need to take a few things with you: a clear container (with holes in the top) to safely handle the bugs, a spoon to carefully pick up the bugs with (remember to be gentle) and optionally, a magnifying glass so you can see all their amazing details close up.

Make little challenges around your bug hunt, such as seeing how many different types of bugs you can find, guessing where different bugs live and seeing who can find the biggest. Just be sure to return the bugs to where you found them and to gently turn back any up-turned rocks and stones.  Their habitat is very important!
