Name Tag Application and Removal

Is it easy to apply the tags?

The applicators are designed to be simple to use. Instructions are included with every applicator we send. We have demo videos available on each Starter Kit and Applicator page to make it easy to visualise.

You can also download our Dolphin Applicator Guide.

What if I want to take the tags off?

A removal tool is cleverly integrated on the underside of the blue and white Dolphin Applicator. If you are not using a Dolphin then we provide individual removal tools at a very low cost. A removal tool is provided as part of every Heavy Duty and Motorised Starter Kit. Please do not use other methods to remove the tags. This may result in damaging the garment and the tag.

Can I reuse the tags?

Our tags are designed to be completely reusable to save you money year after year. Please note, however, the ‘retainers’ need to be disposed of once used and new ones applied to ensure a strong and permanent hold every time. These can be purchased separately for a low cost.

Will there be a hole when I remove the tag?

Will there be a hole when I remove the tag?

This depends on the fabric you've applied the tag to. If you have applied the tag to one of the polyester labels where you often find the wash instructions, there will be a small hole no larger than 1mm in diameter.

If you have applied the tag to an item such as a woolen blanket where the weave is generally larger, the tag would likely fall between these threads and there would be no visible hole.

I think I'm having issues applying a tag?

Firstly, we need to establish if the applicator is broken in any way. Check the "teeth" first as these are the most fragile element.

If something is broken on the applicator and you have received it like this, please contact us immediately. Please note our returns policy for our valid returns period as we can only replace items within 21 days of receipt.

If the product is still intact we need to check a few things before a replacement can be sent. Does the tag apply onto a piece of paper? If so, the tags and retainers are lining up correctly. If not, we can replace the dolphin if it is within 21 days of receipt.

If the tag applies to paper, the next step to check the thickness of the material you are applying the tag to and also the number of times you twist the fin. As a general rule, the thicker the item, the most twists you have to apply. Our tags are designed to go through woven fabrics up to 3mm thick. This can increase and decrease depending on the material and the tightness of the weave.

Please contact our friendly team if you have any questions on this matter and we'd be very happy to help.

Personalisation

What size will the text be?

The character size depends on how many letters you use. Each set of tags is adjusted in both size and position to make the best use of the tags surface area. The more letters used the smaller the font. The minimum font size, if filling all 3 lines with the maximum 11 characters, will be 1.4mm in height. This is the same height you will find a lower case ‘x’ in a standard newspaper. (see examples in below images)

How many characters can I have?

We can etch a total of 33 characters, limited to 11 on a single line, with a maximum of 3 lines. (see examples in below images)

Can I have numbers as well as letters?

Yes, you can mix letters, numbers and a small range of special characters. For young people, it is common to include a surname on line 1 and a mobile number split across the 2nd and 3rd lines. For residents in a care or nursing home, it is common to include a name and room number such as:

Line 1: Geoff | Line 2: Harris | Line 3: RM 12 (see example in below images)

Can I have more than one name in each pack?

Unfortunately, we are unable to split 1 pack into multiple names. The reason this is unavailable is simply due to the production methods used. To ensure every set of tags uses the most space available, we adjust every single pack to the best fit. If you’re buying for a family, it's most cost-efficient to add initials and a surname such as:

Line 1: T & H | Line 2: Harris (see example in below images)

What colours of tags are available?

Tags are available in black with white text or white with a dark grey text. There can be slight variations in the shade of the text which is a result of the laser etching process. (see example below)

Wearability

What can I apply the tags to?

Clothing, bags, soft shoes, trainers, (through laces) lunch bags, rucksacks, towels and bedding and many other soft items. Details of tag positioning are included in each set of instructions which are supplied with every applicator. We do not recommend applying Attach A Tags to undergarments and or tight fitted clothing. We provide cost-effective Mesh Laundry bags which you should tag and use instead. This will ensure efficient use of tags, whilst ensuring no sensitive items are damaged. (see below illustration)

What if there is no label on my garment?

Tags can be applied to thicker materials, and it should be left to the discretion of the wearer on the tags final location. Our positioning guide includes locations which do not depend on the laundry label. (see below illustration)

Will the tag irritate?

The tags are designed to replicate a spare button commonly found on buttoned garments. For best use, please follow our laundry guide and position the tags appropriate to the clothing and wearer. (see below illustration)

Durability

Are the tags iron proof?

The tags have been tested for industrial laundry, therefore, they are suitable for use with irons, tumble dryers, dry cleaning and industrial washing machines.

Can the tags be pulled off?

Attach A Tag has a unique attachment device that has been specially designed to lock securely into the retainer very similar to security devices used in retail stores. It is therefore very difficult to remove without the use of the Attach A Tag removal tool.

Are the tags PFA free?

YES! Our plastic is certified PFA free.

You can view and download the PFA certificate
