Keeping your family entertained over the school holidays can sometimes be an expensive task.
With the cost of living seemingly on an uphill climb, those with children feel the pinch even more.
Luckily there’s loads happening this summer all around the UK for little to no cost.
1. local and national museums

Yes – always a classic and with so many interesting museums (both in and outdoor) open this summer, you’re bound to have a fun and educational day out.
If you’re in the capital, London has several spots where a few museums are in walking distance to each other, making for a jam-packed day out.
Think Exhibition Road and Greenwich Royal Museums!
2. Public Gardens

From picnics and kids fairs to butterfly houses – enjoy the beautiful landscapes that public gardens have to offer and the scattered events they put on during summer.

3. National Trust and English Heritage locations

While individual day tickets for these sites may seem expensive, English Heritage membership fee is only £7 a month, and National Trust £14.70 a month and ensures that you and your family can not only visit their locations in the summer holidays but throughout the year!
4. Aquariums

Similar to some museums, many aquariums have an annual pass option with their ticketing.
This might even be part of the standard ticket pricing also, as some aquariums like the ones below offer unlimited visits for a year if you pay for one ticket!
5. Children’s theatre and festival performances

Local theatre groups and town/city festivals often put on a variety of performances throughout the holiday season, with tickets starting from just a few pounds.
While offerings vary, it’s a great way to get your children (and the whole family) involved with storytelling, song and dance from an early age.

Pro tip: For many of these activities, you may find it’s often less expensive to book in advance online or via phone.
